Home Heartbeat Setup

This tutorial is meant to supplement the HOMEheartbeat Quick Start Guide

1. SETUP the Base Station and HomeKey
2. SETUP the Open/Closed Sensor
3. INSTALL the Open/Closed Sensor
4. SETUP Remote Alerts to your cell phone, pager or email address.
5. MONITOR Your Home Away From Home.

1. SETUP the Base Station and HomeKey

Charge the Home Key by sliding it into the Slide Channel on the top of the Base Station until the Base Station’s green LED light begins to flash.
When the green LED on the Base Station stops blinking, the Home Key is fully charged. It may take up to three hours for a full charge.
To check the Home Key battery level, ROLL the thumbwheel, highlight the Home Key icon, and CLICK once. You will see the battery status on the bottom line of the screen.

TIP: You can adjust how often your Home Key needs to be recharged, as well as how often it “heartbeats” (to get system updates).
Scroll over to the Home Key icon, DOUBLE-CLICK the thumbwheel, and choose Battery Life to reveal the options.
Quick updates provide a more responsive system, but use more battery power. Hourly updates use less battery power.

REMOVE the Home Key from the Base Station.  CLICK the Home Key thumbwheel to turn on the screen and SLIDE the Home Key into the Base Station again from either the left or right side.
Follow the instructions on the Home Key screen to name the Home Key and set the beep and battery life options.
If you would like to change your options later, DOUBLE- CLICK the thumbwheel under the Home Key icon.

TIP: Your Home Key can be set up to display information in either left-handed or right-handed orientation.
To change the orientation, simply dock it to the Base Station from the appropriate side.

At home, in range of the Base, use the Home Key to monitor your HomeHeartbeat system.  Alerts sent by sensors will show up on the Home Key screen.
Away from home, you can get cell phone text messages or email alerts for sensors you set up with "CallMe" Awareness, when you set the Global "CallMe" options to Call me always or Automatic call me.

2. SETUP the Open/Closed Sensor

Remove the Sensor cover and insert the battery.  Click the HomeKey thumbwheel once to "wake up" the screen.
Slide the HomeKey into the channel on the top of the sensor to add it to the system.

TIP: If you slide the Home Key into the sensor and it says Remove Key, check the sensor battery and/or ensure you are within range of the base station..

Before installing your sensor, test it by placing the small, oval shaped magnet near the bottom of the sensor (the alignment arrows on the sensor and the magnet will NOT touch).
This photo shows the proper magnet placement to the sensor.  Note the magnet is placed at the back bottom of the sensor unit, NOT the top of the unit where the arrow is located.

You can also test the range of the base station with the HomeKey by scrolling to the Home icon and clicking on the thumbwheel.  You should see the words" base in range".

Attach the sensor and magnet with the supplied double sided tape. Ensure the magnet is within 1/4" of the sensor for reliable operation.

6. BROADBAND SERVICE Installation

If you are using the Broadband Gateway Extender, do NOT plug a telephone line into the base unit.
Connect the Broadband Gateway into an available port on your Internet router or modem.
If your computer connects directly to your cable or DSL modem and no other connection ports are available, you will need to purchase an Internet router (you can do a Google search for an Internet Router).
Ensure the Broadband Gateway unit Ethernet cable jack has a solid green light.  You should also see a green light in the lower left corner on the front of the Broadband Gateway unit.
This light (normally on) should flash a few times when a sensor goes into an alarm condition.
If this is not occurring, try removing the power cord from both the base station and the Broadband Gateway unit for 10 seconds, then reapply power.
It may take up to 5 minutes for the web portal to communicate with the Broadband Gateway.  More information is on the web portal site.

Broadband Service users can see the current status of their HOMEheartbeat system by logging into our secure web site at www.HHBhost.com.
Sensor alerts will update on the web portal within 20 seconds (or longer depending on HomeKey update settings).
